Creative Discussion

Tear down the walls

with Lucy Medlycott

Lucy Medlycott is a huge advocate for the radical rethinking of who art is for, where it takes place and what it can accomplish. Having set up her own collective carnival arts company in 1994, Lucy found herself segueing into community activism for recognition of the wider street arts and circus sector.  Building connections and opening doors has always been at the heart of her work – be that local, national or international.

Join this lively discussion which looks at art in public space, the importance of saying yes and the relevance of imagination.

Lucy is co-founder and current director of the Irish Street Arts, Circus & Spectacle Network (established 2010), a membership organisation which aims to celebrate, advocate, grow and sustain these collective art forms. Prior to this she co-founded and established Buí Bolg Carnival Arts Company in Wexford in 1994.

Lucy has been chair of the County Wexford Community Forum, director of the Wexford Arts Centre, member of the steering committee of Circostrada, held a position on the County Wexford Development Board, the Local Community Development Committee, the County Wexford Economic Dev & Enterprise SPC and is a current member of the Royal Society of Arts.
