Join Siobhan Butler for a 6-hour intermediate sean nós (old style) dance course. Sean-nós is an informal traditional dance form that values spontaneous expression. This course will emphasise traditional steps, musicality, choreography techniques, and improvisation.
This class is suitable for intermediate level dancers or those with some experience in any traditional or percussive dances. Participants can expect to learn steps and choreography in many styles of Irish dance. Siobhan is also open to prioritising any material that is of particular interest to the class.
Participants should dress comfortably and expect a lot of movement. Leather, suede, or hard rubber soled shoes only – socks are also welcome. Irish dance hard shoes or aluminum tap shoes will not be allowed to be worn in the class.
Siobhan Butler is a performer and teacher of sean-nós dance based in County Clare, Ireland. In her over 20 years as a dancer, she has performed and taught dance around the world with some of the leading traditional artists such as Nic Gareiss, Lúnasa, Cherish the Ladies, Nuala Kennedy, and many more.
Rather than just teaching a single technique, Siobhan pulls from her vast knowledge of percussive dance traditions to give her students a variety of tools to help them interpret the music and build their dancing in their own creative way.
