Welcome for a colourful morning discussion with Oulu Irish music pioneers Markus Lampela and Jorma Mäkitalo.
Oulu is Finland’s Irish Culture Mecca” - Helsingin Sanomat
Ever wonder how Irish music arrived, developed and became such a positive cultural component to the global Irish music and culture scene? Why is Oulu home to the world’s northernmost Irish culture festival with visitors traveling near and far to experience a wee bit of craic agus ceol in northern Finland?
Welcome for a colourful morning discussion with Oulu Irish music pioneers Markus Lampela and Jorma Mäkitalo as they give a retrospective view in to their own personal journeys that spans nearly 40 years of Irish music, inspirations, influences, past bands and more.
Hosted by Brent Cassidy, Irish musician and founder of The Irish Festival of Oulu, the event promises to be a colourful, laid back journey back in time from the late 1980’s to the present. Who knows what will be said, but we’re in for a rare ol’ time with these lads.
Come to listen, laugh, learn, be inspired and ask questions and who knows, maybe a song or two will be sung by the lads.
“The leadership and volunteers have created a real mecca of Irish culture in Oulu over the last ten years, known around the world and especially in Ireland.” -Helsingin Sanomat
